Smoothies—this is a great way to get all sorts of amazing food in your kids with them thinking they are having a juice. Always toss in some protein powder and Barlean’s Greens powder, berry flavor. (This stuff is amazing, packed with probiotics, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and of course tons of greens.) Omega Swirl by Barlean’s is a fish oil that’s mango and peach flavor. I also toss in some cinnamon (balances blood sugar) and whatever greens are in the fridge—spinach, kale, parsley . . . they are all great. Then I throw in a cucumber, beets, or carrots. Now to make it sweet, I keep frozen berries, mango, and pineapple chunks in the freezer and toss some in as well. Keep in mind blackberries and pomegranate seeds get kind of annoying. I also use fresh fruit like banana and apple. The trick is to get enough fruit to hide the taste of the veggies but not so much that you have too much sugar. For a base, I use coconut or almond milk. The key to smoothies is a good blender. I’ve tried a bunch and have settled on Vitamix. It’s expensive but worth every penny.
