The other day, someone posted they had rolled down hills with their little boy. I said, “Wow, good for you. That’s so cool you did that.” My friend brilliantly replied, “So, go do it.”
Uh oh. This sounded like a challenge. Love a challenge. A fun little dare. This actually was a little convicting. I have NEVER rolled down a hill with my kids. They are two and five. Time to get after it. I refuse to let one more day go by with no hill rolling. I know this sounds a little over the top, but it is important. I don’t want to wake up one day and say, “I never did XYZ with my kids and now it’s too late.”
So yesterday, I went hill scouting. I found the perfect spot. Even better, it was en route to my son’s school. We made a plan. We were going to stop off on the way to school and roll down some hills. We were all so excited. What a way to start the day. As we were driving there, I had inner butterflies doing cartwheels of excitement. I thought we must be the only ones in the world stopping off on the way to school to do this. We pulled up and I thought the grass looked a little shiny. Oh, no. It’s wet. Grrrr. Darn. We would have to wait until after school. We were all a little disappointed but started planning our rolls. We would try some holding hands. Maybe a race. All in a line, etc.
Plans changed and Pemberley wasn’t with me when I picked Hayden up, but my mom was. We went back to the spot and it was perfect. A little grassy hill. Not too steep. Not in an area where dogs hang. H and I held hands and went for it. It was fabulous. Seriously, I don’t remember the last time I had that much fun. My mom even rolled with Hayden. I love that we had three generations rolling down a hill. When we left, Hayden made a wish on a wishing flower. That night, I asked him what he had wished for. He said, “Mamma, I wished we could do that every day.” I told him I was thinking the same thing. Funny how something so simple could be so fun. Feel so special. And . . . it didn’t cost a penny. When we got home, we rolled with Pemberley in our yard. It’s a tiny space to roll, but we did it and had a blast. If I were to make a collage of favorite life moments, this would be on there for sure. I hope you are inspired. Please go roll and tell me about it!
